Bondi Beach and the surrounding suburbs feature many beautiful walks that take in the Tasman Sea, Sydney Harbour and the Sydney and North Sydney business districts. So, whether you’re walking to site-see, exercise or a combination of both, here’s a list of the best walks around Bondi to get you out-and-about seeing the best of what our suburb has to offer.
Bondi Golf Course
The Bondi Gold Course is perched on the edge of the cliffs above North Bondi Beach and provides truly spectacular views of the Tasman Sea, local Bondi Beach area and Sydney city. There aren’t any fences so you can enter and exit where you please. Make sure to look-out for the indigenous rock carvings. Sunset and sunrise are usually the most spectacular times to visit. It’s located on Military Road in North Bondi and difficult to miss. We rate it as our favourite best walk around Bondi.
Ray O’Keefe Reserve
Located at the end of Brighton Blvd at Ben Buckler, the Ray O’Keefe Reserve is one of the best spots in Sydney to watch the sunset over Bondi Beach and the city. If the weather is calm and you’re a strong swimmer, the rocks on the south side of the Ray O’Keefe Reserve is a magical spot to take a dip. You’ll often see the locals leaping off “Flat Rock” but be warned, getting back out can be difficult unless you know what you’re doing.
Rodney Reserve
The Rodney Reserve is a strip of grassy parkland running along the clifftop at Dover Heights. It’s a 1.7km walk from The Mitchell Bondi and well worth it. It’s a great extension to the Bondi Golf Course walk. It’s also on Military Road.
Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk
The coastal walk between Bondi & Bronte is an icon of the Bondi Beach area and justifiably so. There are many sets of stairs so it’s not an easy walk, but it should be manageable by people with varying degrees of fitness as it has lots of rest stops where you can sit and watch the ocean…and maybe a whale if you’re lucky! It’s easy to find – walk to North Bondi Beach, head south and follow the coast.
South Heritage Trail
The South Head Heritage Trail is a lovely, easy to walk, well-maintained path that takes you from Watsons Bay out to the end of the southern headland of Sydney Harbor. One of Australia’s first lighthouses and several WWII battlements add some history to the spectacular views of sparkling Sydney Harbor and the North Shore. Consider it a must-do during your next trip to Sydney and a very worthy inclusion in our best walks around Bondi list.
The Mitchell Bondi is centrally located in North Bondi, just a stones throw from Bondi Beach.
It’s the place for you to stay if you’re looking for North Bondi accommodation and want to be located in the middle of the best walks around Bondi.
